Two tales

A copy of a tale taken from a book called ... , evidently a collection of tales and stories. This tale deals with an eshan and his pupil, a king of a city where there was no difference between good and evil, where the prices were the same for everything, and a thief of that city. Although the original of the book may be Persian, this tale has been adapted to the localities of the city of Yarkand. On f. 3a follows a short ... of the tall tale-type (cf. Jarring, A Tall Tale from Central Asia, Lund 1973)

Foliation: The ms. is foliated by G. Jarring.

Origin

Place of origin: Eastern Turkistan
Date of origin: 20th century, early (?)
No date, but probably early 20th century. The copy was made in Kashghar or Yarkand.

Provenance: Among Gustaf Raquette's papers.

Acquisition: The ms. was presented by Gustaf Raquette's widow, Mrs. Hanna Raquette to the Lund University Library in the 1960's.
