Munazaras

Old number 28. Two munazaras. Contents
1) ff. 1a-3b A munazara dealing with a contest between different dishes. The king is called "rice", his army is composed of fighters with names after different dishes; cf. Prov. 56 which is of the same type. Although this ms. begins with a basmala it is doubtful if it is complete
2) ff. 4a-12a "The contest of the fruits". A munazara, published by G. Jarring, The Contest of the Fruits. An Eastern Turki Allegory (Lund 1936). The title on f. 12b. On f. 12b a malediction: This "contest of the Fruits" belongs to Satiq Aldi Hakim ibn Sharif Akhond. Everyone who says "it is mine" -his mouth will absolutely dry up

Place of origin: Eastern Turkistan
Date of origin: 20th century, early (?)
No date indicated, but probably early 20th century.

Provenance: Bought on October 4, 1929 in Kashghar by Gunnar Jarring. Price paid: 1 1/2 tanga.

Acquisition: The ms. was part of the Jarring collection of Eastern Turkistan manuscripts donated to the Lund University Library in 1982.
